The initial treatment of injury on the job site by personnel is part of first aid. A first aid kit should address the needs of the personnel in the work area where the kit is located. The employer is responsible for providing training to employees to administer first aid when there is no medical facility located on the worksite. The local fire department or medical facility can provide guidance on what supplies are appropriate for the workplace. 29 CFR part 1910.151 has specific guidance on medical and first aid.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for any employee that will be exposed to blood or other such infectious materials in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Exposure to Blood borne Pathogens standard. CFR 1910.1030 (d)(3).
